Whether you like it neat, on the rocks, or mixed in with your favorite tonics and fruit juices, whiskey is one of America’s most beloved spirits. We’ve scoured hundreds of Baltimore’s best watering holes to find you the six best spots to sip ryes, bourbons, and scotches, from within our fine country and beyond.

Check out the best places to sip on whiskey in Baltimore:

The Brewer’s Art

Designed to resemble the warmth and cozyness of a bibliophile’s personal library, The Brewer’s Art is the perfect location to grab a craft brew or slowly sip your favorite whiskey. Their selection is extensive and includes top-quality scotches, as well as Irish whiskey, small batch bourbon, rye, and micro-distilled options. Downstairs you’ll find a speakeasy-like bar—romantic, dim lights, low ceilings, strong drinks. See their extensive list of whiskey here!

TIP: Their rosemary garlic fries will change your life. Order enough for everyone—you won’t want to share.

Plug Ugly's Publick House

A brewpub with a great dinner menu, late bar hours, a killer whiskey menu, and a fascinating history!? Plug Ugly’s really does have it all, especially if you’re a whiskey lover. With a menu of bourbons, scotches, and classic domestic options ranging from $6-$40 a glass, there’s something for even those of us with the most discriminating palettes.

TIP: Seafood lovers: Their ceviche, ahi tuna, and Chilean sea bass have all been highly praised. Why not try all three?

Blue Pit BBQ

With a dog-friendly patio surrounded by twinkle lights and a whiskey list more than 100  bottles deep, Blue Pit BBQ more than delivers on its “Best Outdoor Drinking” claim, as noted by Baltimore magazine. The food’s nothing to snuff at, either—voted “Best BBQ” by Baltimore City Paper, their tender, smoked meats and down-home savory sides are not to be missed.

TIP: Treat yourself to $7 Four Roses Yellow during Happy Hour—where else can you get something so smooth and delicious for such a reasonable price!?

Cardinal Tavern

While every day is Whiskey Day for true aficionados, Wednesdays at Cardinal Tavern will have you feeling especially satisfied with $2 off all your favorites. With a list boasting more than 50 bourbons, Irish whiskies, american classics, imported specials, and ryes, your whole group is bound to find something they love.

TIP: Their soul food menu is incredible—the menu is ever-rotating, but the four-piece fried chicken with mac n’ cheese won’t disappoint.

Birds of a Feather

Birds of a Feather is a scotch bar for serious whiskey drinkers—without the exclusive, pretentious feel. Its small, unassuming bar area opens into a gorgeously sultry, dark, and romantic space with leather chairs before a fireplace, and quiet music invites friendly conversation. By far the most impressive thing Birds of a Feather has to offer is their extremely knowledgeable staff who can walk you through your first scotch or, for more experienced drinkers, delve into the complexities of your whiskey. And with more than 150 bottles in their library, there’s a lot of sipping to do.

TIP: There’s no kitchen, but feel free to bring in your own eats.
